Candy Crack Corn & I Don't Care

Just came across this important breaking news flash: a company in Kentucky has decided to start making this dubious candy type in three additional new flavors: green apple, cherry, and tangerine.

To this I say: Uh, huh.

In my mind, this clearly comes under the heading of a bad idea made worse. Before all the candy corn aficionados come out to defend their plastic-like confection, let me state here that I have absolutely nothing against ‘em. They just don’t do it for me. If I’m gonna spend the calories, I’ll go for a Snickers (or probably, more accurately, a sixteenth of one).

That said, I actually do buy these fake vegetable kernels. They are just so Halloween-y, kinda like the fruit cake is to Xmas – i.e. no one really eats ‘em but they practically scream “holiday.” (I would also put Peeps, the marshmallow chicks, in this category for Easter, but those are actually 1) yummy, and thus 2) eaten – and in my house, I might add, all year round). Come to think of it, making Peeps in Halloween shapes like ghosts and pumpkins – now that was a stroke of marketing genius the candy corn people could learn from.

Anyhoo, my decision to purchase candy corn is the central tenet of my long-time proven Halloween strategy to buy the candy I least want to sneak into the kitchen and stuff myself on when I have three Costco-sized bags of it left over after trick-or-treating. I guess this year, as an added bonus, I’ll be able to not want to pig out on the red and green corn leftovers I’ll be calling Xmas candy. I'd rather tackle the fruit cake.

I hate candy corn - it all tastes like wax teeth to me. And as far as the new flavors? Ew! However, I respect your decision to have it 'round. Two weeks ago I bought a big assortment bag (reeses, whoppers, kit kat, herseys) because it was on sale. There will not be any left for trick or treaters! Wish I'd gone for the candy corn, my pants might actually fit if I had!

In the hope that I will remain anonymous, I have to admit that I LOVE candy corn. Every year when the Halloween candy hits the shelves, I struggle with myself, because I know that once it is in my house, I cannot resist those special little candies. I still bite off one color at a time, like I did when I was 8! My kids think I am crazy, as they bypass the boring colorful stuff in favor of the more substantial Reeses or Snickers. I usually succumb at least once, because I would rather live with guilt than deprivation. However, not all candy corn are created equal. You have to go for the "gourmet" type sold in candy emporia or upscale supermarkets. Just writing about candy corn makes me want some, but alas, I already ate my quota two weeks ago. Oh, well, tomorrow is Halloween and I will have to settle for snickers, unless I find some candy corn in the kids' reject pile.

First of all Laurachick - I have the same bag of candy, which as of right now is already half gone sadly the light will be out at my home, because by the end of the day we will be out of candy. Secondly candy corn is my least favorite type of candy and I do not understand the idea of "flavors" because they taste like wax- I mean even the orginals don't have a "flavor". The things people come up with....

I love Candy Corn - only if it's Brachs though. I liked it when they did different colors for other Holidays and called them Raindeer Corn and Bunny Corn, but the flavor was the same. I'll probably give the new flavors a try.

I used to love candy corn but the last few years it has becom more waxy and taste's old. I hate old candy corn it is really hard and gross that is how candy corn has become. It seems that they keep all the old and then redistribute it. I hope the new flavors taste better other wise I am with the anti- corns.
